Lana's Toy Nook

My Toy Nook features some of Lana’s personal favorite toys and figurines from her childhood. Each piece holds different memories and are a time capsule of childlike wonder and creativity.

My Childhood

My mom and dad always have—and still do have—a passion for browsing the toy aisle. With three daughters close in age, my sisters and I grew up feeling thankful and fortunate for the fun figurines they brought home, which added to our wonderfully strange, overflowing collection of random toys and endless storylines.

Why playing shaped me to
who I am today.

From Elementary school well in to early middle school my friends, my sisters, and I would come together especially with our Monster High dolls and Polly Pockets and create elaborate storylines to play from. We’d be resourceful and flexible to make items for our toys to use, springing on a whole new craft in itself. Toys of course help the development of cognitive, motor, psychological, and emotional skills. But more than that I think toys allow you to embrace silliness, creativity, and not to take life so seriously, which I think is a good reminder for everyone.

This playfulness has left an impact on my design process, my enjoyment of art and design, and the passion to try new things, such as new techniques on adobe softwares, attempting to crotchet or taking a metalsmithing class.
